• art1smith Posted 2014-11-27 In a way that Gimp, DarkTable fetches a lot related to flack for its user interface, which some seem to find difficult. Yet pending it has a bit more of a learning curve as, say, LightZone, it also has prolonged tools & characteristics. To my way of thinking, I like the DarkTable interface. It's extremely simple & logical once you learn it. And its feature set compares favorably to the spendy commercial apps like Lightroom & Aperture. Clearly, I use several different photo editors because they all have to a certain extent different features. LightZone is some easiest to use for quick adjustments (I use the case as an alternative of Preview). Photivo remains more complicated, but contains useful selection curtaining utensils. But overall, DarkTable bears the best coalition pertaining to features & ease of use. For a free businesslike pic editor, it really can't beat it.

• foreverdiving Posted 2014-02-06 While DT (using 1.4 now) is selected capable Raw chip, its cryptic interface makes it hard to resort to. Doesn't have a good put out module and the viewer cannot print from idea. It also lacks a proper tip menu (I'm using the Ubuntu version) in turn you are convinced to quit by pressing a button the (X) control of the window. Along all same concept, Photivo is much easier and feature laden. I held "high expectations" about DT but the developer seem to command lost dynamics as well bearing.

I have processed hundreds of pictures plus it has crashed maybe once or each time twice in some time span without loosing any work or else corrupting file : a reliable platform (I suspect the crash were due to lack of memory). Now I have a updated computer with that graphic card coupled with 2 GB, the experience is much smoother and livelier than with my laptop with integrated graphics. Thanks to the technical experts for such a fantastic software !
