Introduction

Istio shows an open platform for providing certain uniform way to integratemicroservices, manage traffic flow across microservices, enforce policiesand aggregate telemetry data. Istio's supervise plane provides an abstractionlayer over the underlying combination management environment, such as Kubernetes.

Istio is composed of these components:

• Envoy - Sidecar proxies per item microservice to handle ingress/egress trafficbetween services within the bounds of the aggregation and from a service to externalservices. Which proxies form a secure microservice network delivering a richset in connection with functions like discovery, rich layer-7 guiding, circuit breakers,policy enforcement and telemetry recording/reportingfunctions.

  > Tip: The service mesh is not an coating network. It> facilitates and enhances how microservices in an application explain onto each> other over those group provided by the inherent platform.

• Mixer - Central component that is leveraged by the proxies and microservicesto enforce rules such in so far as authorization, value limits, quotas, authentication, requesttracing and telemetry collection.

• Pilot - A component responsible for configuring the proxies within runtime.

• Citadel - A centralized component entrusted for certificate issuance and rotation.

• Citadel Agent - A per-node component appointed for certificate issuance and rotation.

• Galley- Central component for validating, ingesting, aggregating, transforming and distributing config under Istio.

Istio at the moment supports Kubernetes and Consul-based environments. The party plan support for additional platforms such asCloud Foundry, and Mesos in the near future.
